Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate work hours for payroll?
Enter start time, end time, and break minutes. Use the decimal hours result for timesheet and payroll entries.
What if my shift crosses midnight?
If the end time is earlier than the start time on the clock, the calculator adds 24 hours to compute an overnight shift.
Should I subtract lunch breaks?
Yes. Enter unpaid break minutes (typically 30–60 for lunch) to get accurate paid work hours.
How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal?
Divide minutes by 60 and add to hours. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes = 7.5 decimal hours. This calculator does it automatically.
Can I use this for weekly timesheets?
Calculate each day separately and sum the decimal hours for your weekly total.
